Hearing loss warning on impotence drugs

WASHINGTON - Viagra and other impotence drugs are about to bear new warnings that users may experience sudden hearing loss.

It’s not clear that the drugs truly trigger hearing loss, but the Food and Drug Administration decided Thursday to add a warning about the possible risk after counting 29 reports of the problem since 1996 among users of this family of medicines.

The impotence drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra will bear the warnings. So will Revatio, a drug for citrate generic sildenafil viagra hypertension, which contains the same drug lookup medication as Viagra.

Viagra’s label already mentioned hearing loss as a possibility, because a few cases were reported during initial testing of that drug. But given that hearing loss is a risk of teenage impotence age and certain conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease, that can lead to impotence, it wasn’t clear if the link was real.

That still isn’t clear, said FDA ear nose and throat specialist Dr. Robert Boucher.

But in poring over FDA’s database of possible drug nys public health law, what struck him was these 29 reports said the hearing loss occurred without hours to two days of taking one of the drugs.

“We don’t know enough to say that it’s ironclad caused by the drugs, but we see enough to say we can’t ignore it either,” he said.

The reports involve hearing loss in one ear, which in a third of cases was drug lookup medication.

FDA urged patients who experience any hearing problems &151; to promptly call their doctors and stop taking the impotence drugs.

News - Spider venom could boost sex life

And some information of best herbal viagra.
Brazilian and US scientists are looking into using spider venom as a possible treatment for male impotence.

Their investigation follows reports that men bitten by the Phoneutria nigriventer experienced priapism - long and painful erections.

A two-year study has found that the venom contains a toxin, called Tx2-6, that causes erections.

Further tests are being carried out in the US before the substance can be approved for human use.

The results, from the Medical College of Georgia, are expected in a month’s time.

The bite of Phoneutria nigriventer, known as the Brazilian wandering spider, is potent and can be deadly in some cases.

The Brazilian and US researchers interviewed men who claimed their sex lives had improved after a spider attack.

The relevant toxin identified in the venom has been tested successfully on other animals.

So far, scientists believe that combining a version of the spider’s venom with an existing drug for erectile dysfunction - such as Viagra, Cialis or Levtra - could produce better results.

News - Viagra rival approved in US

The United States Government has approved the sale of a new drug expected to raise the stakes in the male impotence market.

Levitra, the first market rival to the hugely profitable Viagra, is being manufactured by the German firm, Bayer AG, and marketed by the British firm GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) as an alternative oral therapy for erectile dysfunction.

Since its appearance in 1998, sales of Pfizer’s Viagra have risen to nearly $2bn a year.

Both pills work in the same manner and doctors warn that both can have serious side effects, especially for men with heart problems.

A third anti-impotence pill, Cialis, is expected to reach the US market later this year.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Levitra, an orange pill compared to Viagra’s blue, based on studies showing that men were on average five times more likely to achieve an erection suitable for intercourse when taking the pill compared with those given a dummy medicine.

Researchers reported that studies of several thousand men showed that Viagra helped more than 70% improve their
erections.

As well as the warnings to men with heart conditions, the FDA said Levitra was not for patients with who had suffered a recent heart attack or stroke who have very low blood pressure or uncontrolled high blood pressure.

For otherwise healthy men, Levitra’s main side effects
were headache, flushing and a stuffy nose and sometimes dizziness.

Lawson Macartney, head of strategic management of GlaxoSmithKline’s cardiovascular, metabolic and urology drugs, said: “We know, from considerable market research, that the
market is ready for new options”.

GSK expects Levitra to be available in September.

Mechanism of Cialis action in general

Tadalafil should be taken orally. This medicine is used for therapy of erectile dysfunction, or impotence, consisting in lacking of ability to reach and keep in existence a penile erection. The drug class, which Tadalafil belongs to, is called phosphodiesterase inhibitors. Sildenafil (Viagra) and Vardenafil (Levitra) belong to this drug class too. When a penis is filling up with blood there a penile erection springs up. The blood vessels, which are responsible for bringing blood to male reproductive organs, extend in size what causes filling the penis up with large quantity of blood. While the blood vessels, responsible for transporting blood away from the penis, diminish in size, what causes taking much less blood away from the penis than under usual circumstances. Sexual excitement leading to a sterling erection determines the production and ejection of nitric oxide in the male genital organs. The nitric oxide provokes the production of an enzyme called guanylate cyclase that is a necessary condition for production of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). This chemical compound controls extending and reducing of the size of the blood vessels that transport blood to and from the male reproductive organs. These changes of sizes condition erection.

Afterwards one more enzyme, which is called phosphodiesterase-5, demolishes the cGMP what makes blood vessels take their usual sizes, blood go away from the penis and thus the erection is over. Mechanism of action of Tadalafil consists in preventing phosphodiesterase-5 to ruin cGMP so the last one exists longer. The extended thus life of cGMP makes blood flow to the penis for longer period of time. The U.S. FDA approved Tadalafil in November, 2003.

Digression to history of Cialis

Before talking about the Cialis's case history it's necessary to remember the famous Pfizer's medication Viagra. After on the 27th of March 1998 The U. S. Food and Drug Administration approved Viagra, this prescription was a success, and just for the first year of marketing Pfizer sold medicines, total cost of which overreached one billion dollars. Unfortunately for Pfizer the situation was altered significantly after the FDA authorized Levitra on the 19th of August, 2003 and Cialis on the 21st of November, 2003 too. In 1993 the pharmaceutical company Icos started to examine a PDE5 enzyme inhibitor called IC351 as it was essentially the process through which the erectile dysfunction medicines affected. In 1994 during clinical researches of some cardiac medication Pfizer's researches descried the sildenafil citrate, a white crystal powder, which was a part of the medicine, caused the probationers, taking part in the researches, to have erections as it blocked the enzyme that was responsible for the production of the chemical substation causing erection, normalizing thus erectile function of the penis for some time.

Despite the fact that the investigators were not attempting the chemical mix IC351 for erectile dysfunction therapy, the mixture appeared to have an accompanying effect that could possibly cost millions or even billions of dollars. In 1994 at the nearest opportunity Icos got the exclusive right to IC351, and during 1995 the medical researches of the first phase were taking place. In 1997 the second phase of the medical studies was started and for the first time Icos tested its medicine on patients with erectile dysfunction. The second phase continued for about two years and when it was over the third phase was commenced.

In 1998 ICOS Corporation and Eli Lilly & Company decided exploiting the preparation for erectile dysfunction for financial profit and in two years they registered a new medicine application with the U.S. FDA for IC351; they made a decision to name the medicine Cialis this time though. In May of 2002, Icos and Eli Lilly & Company informed the American Urological Association that the researches carried out in the third phase showed that Cialis's effect lasted for about 36 hours. In a year U.S. FDA approved Cialis. In comparison with Viagra Cialis has one essential advantage. The matter is that the half life of Tadalafil (Cialis), is 17.5 hours so this medicine works up to 36 hours, even if there is still about a quarter of the absorbed dose in the body by that time. As to Sildenafil (Viagra), its half life is just 4 hours.
In 2006 Eli Lilly bought ICOS Corporation for $2.1 billion dollars.

Dosage and side effects of Cialis (Tadalafil)

PREPARATIONS
Tablets: 5 mg, 10mg and 20 mg.

STORAGE
Tablets should be kept at room temperature between 15-30 C (59-86 F).

PRESCRIBED FOR
Tadalafil is used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, or impotence.

DOSAGE
The recommended initial dose of Tadalafil is 10 mg per day, which have to be taken orally before sexual activity. This prescribed amount is a usual daily dose for the majority of men. This dose can be increased up to 20 mg or decreased to 5 mg per day depending on the feedback or side effects. The maximal duration of the Tadalafil's effect is 36 hours. Patients who take medicines extending the level of Tadalafil in the blood shouldn't surpass a total dose of 10 mg in 72 hours (See "DRUG INTERACTIONS"). As food doesn't influence on absorption of Tadalafil from the intestine the drug can be taken while eating as well as on an empty stomach.

DRUG INTERACTIONS
The following medicines can diminish the ability of the organism to destroy and eliminate Tadalafil: erythromycin, ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), indinavir (Crixivan) and ritonavir (Norvir). Hence these medications can heighten the level of Tadalafil in the blood. If these medicines have to be taken simultaneously with Tadalafil, its dose has to be reduced to avoid side effects, which can be provoked with high level of Tadalafil in the blood. When being taken simultaneously with nitrates, such as nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate (Isordil), isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur, Ismo, Monoket), nitroglycerin (Nitro-Dur, Transderm-Nitro), which are usually prescribed for treatment of heart pain (angina), Tadalafil strengthens heart rate and lowers blood pressure. If the patient takes nitrates for angina, Tadalafil can become a reason of heart pain or perhaps even a heart attack as a result of strengthening of heart rate and lowering of blood pressure. So it's highly recommended not to take Tadalafil together with nitrates. Tadalafil can also heighten the blood pressure as it lessens effects of some alpha-blocking medicines, such as terazosin (Hytrin), which are principally used for treatment of high blood pressure or increment of the prostate. The patients, who take the alpha-blockers, have to take the stable dose of these drugs before starting to take Tadalafil. In these cases at the initial stage the lowest doses of Tadalafil should be taken. In cases of taking Tadalafil, the alpha-blockers should be taken beginning with the lowest dose. As Tadalafil like alcohol lower blood pressure it's highly recommended not to mix these substances, because as a result of such mixing there can be dizziness, headaches and increased heart rate.

PREGNANCY
The drug isn't approved for usage by women.

NURSING MOTHERS
Breastfeeding mothers were not testing for taking Tadalafil.

SIDE EFFECTS
When using Tadalafil the following accompanying effects can take place: headache, facial flushing (reddening), nausea, stomach upset, diarrhea, and flu-like symptoms. Tadalafil can also become the cause of low blood pressure, spasm of accommodation, breach of color perception and anomalistic ejaculation.
There were cases of continuous erections, or priapism (aching erection that lasts more than six hours) fixed after taking Tadalafil. If erection lasts more than four hours you have to recourse. There is causation between using of Tadalafil and chest pain, heart attack, palpitation, hastened heart rate, stroke and death, but it's not confirmed if these side effects are result of using Tadalafil or they are direct outcome of sexual activity itself.

Product contains tadalafil

Confidence Inc. is recalling about 1,500 boxes of Long Weekend dietary supplements because representatives from the
